Mohawk College Joyce Centre for Partnership and Innovation
This flagship facility houses Mohawk’s growing Engineering Program. It is a teaching and research laboratory dedicated to emergent engineering pursuits – including studying the effects of climate change on engineering and society. It is a fully net-zero energy performance building. On a net-annualized basis, all energy consumed by the building is generated on site via a 545 kW Photovoltaic array. The building is fully electric; with ground source VRF heat pumps, occupancy operated DOAS ventilation, fully sensor driven LED lighting system and advanced M&V infrastructure and protocols. The enclosure system is a very high-performance integrated system of triple glazing and highly insulated sandwich panel precast. Advanced teaching spaces intermingle with information commons and social spaces to animate students & researchers and trigger best results teaching & learning. The facility was recently airtightness tested to a very impressive 0.54 L/s/m2 – a testament to the integrated teamwork of client, designer and constructor.
