ENFORM Deep Energy Retrofit Seminar | DER26

On May 28, 2026, ENFORM Architects hosted our fourth annual Deep Energy Retrofit Seminar. DER26 brought together some of the brightest minds in Deep Energy Retrofits for an evening focused on material and technical challenges we face as sustainable architects and designers through the lens of system-wide reduction targets and parametric analyses. What makes this event so special is seeing familiar faces reconnect while welcoming new members into our growing community, united by a shared commitment to advancing the zero-carbon design and retrofit industry for a more sustainable, Earth-friendly built environment.

BUTTERFLY EFFECTS/PLANETARY BOUNDARIES

Concept Lecture

The Reduction Roadmap is an Earth-shot project which—for the first time ever—works to translate the Paris Agreement and the Planetary Boundary for Climate Change into industry-specific reduction targets for new housing projects. The Reduction Roadmap identifies where we are today, where we need to go, and the speed at which we must reduce our carbon emissions to reach Earth’s safe operating space. The result is a science-based transformation tool to align all building industry stakeholders towards a progressive future. As a primary agency establishing this framework, CEBRA from Denmark, will present the roadmap with ENFORM Architects.

PARAMETRIC ANALYSIS FOR SOCIAL HOUSING

Case Study

Toronto Community Housing Corporation (TCHC) has a decarbonisation mandate through a portfolio-wide Deep Energy Retrofit program. We work with TCHC to analyse existing building scenarios and work to improve building energy performance by providing the most optimised, cost-effective high performance solutions. This session covers our parametric design process for a holistic retrofit of a townhouse complex in Scarborough. Building on an already ambitious Toronto Community Housing RFP mandate, our team leveraged a pathfinder energy simulation to discover the best solution towards Zero Carbon design. The session will highlight the value of Energy Modelling during the schematic design phase and demonstrate how these early modelling insights can inform and further strengthen the overall design process.

Building Science Jeopardy is a live, high-energy session blending industry expertise with friendly competition. Presented by ENFORM Architects and hosted by Alex Lukachko, this interactive event turns deep energy retrofit principles into a fast-paced exchange of questions, insights, and real-world applications. Contestants tackle enclosure design, mechanical systems, and retrofit strategy—testing knowledge and quick thinking.

The result is a lively, collaborative learning experience that elevates and amplifies our collective knowledge— celebrating curiosity, sharpening expertise, and inviting the audience to play along as we explore the challenges and opportunities shaping deep energy retrofit projects in 2026. Whether you’re a seasoned professional or just building your knowledge, this is your chance to be part of a live studio audience for a one-of-a-kind showdown.
